VALEDICTORY.
Miss Gladys McMillan, who, for the past two years has been attached to the, side school at the Beach, was entertained at afternoon tea and made the recipient of presentations from scholars and parents at the Beach Hall on Thursday afternoon. Aliss McAlillan has resigned her position under the Wanganui Board to take up a position as sole teacher at Herbert vill'e under the Hawke’s Bay Board.
Afr. F. A. Ala son, head master of the Foxton District High School, in asking Aliss Mo-MMI-an to accept some volumes of poetic works, said lie sincerely regretted losing the services of such a loyal, capable and conscientious teacher. He was pleased to know ilia I her new position meant promotion and she was a teacher who would go- far in the profession. By her sympathetic disposition she had endeared herself lo the scholars who were loath to lose her. Apart from her school work she had found time to assist in the social welfare of the Beach, lie made special mention of her organising ability in connection with the school concerts. In conclusion lie wished her success and happiness in her new sphere. He felt sure she would capably fulfil her added responsibilities with credit.
Air. Bastion, who had been associated with Afass McMillan at the school, endorsed all that Air Alason bad said and paid a tribute to her co-opera lion in all matters pertaining to Hie educational and moral welfare of the scholars.
Air. J. K. Ilornblow, on behalf of Miss McMillan, thanked}all foi< their kindly remarks and tokens of goodwill and added that Aliss McMillan intended to keep in touch with the scholars and wished the school success in the future.
Cheers were lustily given for the departing teacher and afternoon lea dispensed.
Prior to Aliss Gladys McMillan’s departure from Foxton for Herherville, she was cntcrtaijiied, by members of the Foxton District High School teaching staff at an afternoon in Walls’ tea rooms where a happy time was spent. Miss McMillan was asked to accept a handsome embossed trinket box as a mark of esteem from her fellow teachers, while. the best wishes were extended to her in her new sphere. Aliss McMillan suitably replied. -Miss McMillan was also entertained privately during - the week. She left for Herbert vide yesterday.
