ACCESS TO FOXTON BEACH.
TO BE METALLED PENDING PROPOSED DEVIATION. The matter of a safe access to the Foxton Beach has always been one of concern to visiting motorists and in times past its,had state has often been the cause of ‘keeping people away from the seaside. At Me last meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board Mr. Perreau asked that some metal be placed on the approach as it was in a bad state whereas the road to the beach from Foxton was at present in very good condition. Mr. W. E. Barber said that lie thought the reason why no work had been carried out on the approach of late was because a suggestion had been made to deviate the road around a sandhill to come out alongside the store. Mr. Perreau said that was the best access to the 'beach. He had
closely observed the cutting- for souie years now and had found that when the present cutting was inaccessible owing to high tides, which often cut the roadway out to a depth of two feet making it dangerous to traffic, there was always a safe access round the fence past (lie store.
Members did not altogether agree, with this view, it being considered that the access in this locality was far from suitable.
It was decided to metal the approach in the meantime pendingsome definite action in regard to the Sanatorium road. If the latter is proceeded with motorists will at
all times have safe access to the old river bed independent of the time or state of the tide.
