Air. E. Petersen, is at present spending a holiday in Foxton. Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Fairev are leaving Foxton next week for Palmerston North. Mr. 11. N. Tail, of the Commercial Bank, leaves for Christchurch next weelk on holiday. Mr. Johnston, of Palmerston N., is at present relieving at the local station. Miss M. AVilson, of Marotiri, is at present spending a holiday with Airs. L. Cole, of Stanwav. Miss G. AlcAlillan, of the Beach Side School leaching staff, has received notice of her transfer to Herbertvillc school. Air. Yineont A. AVavd, son of Sir Joseph Ward, who acted as his father's personal secretary during his term as Prime Minister, has relinquished his position as a salaried olrijcer on the staff of the Prime Alinister’s Department. Air. R, P. AA T| ard, Under-Secre-tary of Justice, has been appointed to take over the duties of Commissioner of Police, rendered vacant by the resignation of Air. AA’. B. Alcilvenov. Tn notifying Mr. Ward’s appointment, the Afinister said he desired to make it clear Hint the appointment was being made ns a temporary measure only, pending the selection of a permanent successor to Air. Alcllveney. The Minister added that the officer holding the position of Under-Se-cretary of Justice hurl on previous occasions 'also held the post of Commissioner of Police. Il was not intended that the Under-Secretary should continue indefinitely as commissioner.
