TOWN HALL. With picturesque backgrounds that bring to the screen sights from the four corners of the earth, “Behind that Curtain,” Fox mystery melodrama, screens at the Town
liall to-night, it was adapted from Earl Deer Diggers’ novel of the same name —one of the live best sellers of the year. Warner Baxter, Lois Moran, Gilbert Emery and Philip Strange, artists of wide ex-
periem-e, portray the leading roles. Rigger’s story opens in London, wiih the mysterious murder of a 'barrister whose investigations into their private affairs promise to involve two of the principals, John Beetham, an explorer, played by Baxter, and Eric Durand, an adventurer with a shady past, portrayed h.v Strange. Beetham, in love with Eve Mannering, the part enacted by Miss Moran, conics to bid her good-
bye on the eve of his departure on an expedition from Peshawar, India, across the Persian desert to Teheran. lie loves Eve, hut learns that she and Durand were, secret-
ly married the previous day and are about to leave for India also. Her uncle, Sir George Manncring, indignantly cuts her off from his heart and fortune. There ensues a series of thrilling events in which
a prominent figure is 'Sir Frederick Bruce, head of Scotland Yard, a role splendidly depicted by Emery. Also "Mama Behave” ('Comedy), News, and Austrian Alps ('Scenic). Usual prices. An exciting melodrama that is numbered amongst the most entertaining' has been constructed by Universal from the original screen story of William Lester, “Phantom Fingers" ("Slim Fingers”). It- is coming to the Town Hail on Monday, with William Cody and Duane' Thompson as the featured players. A well known cast of players arc in the company, Bill Cody, Duane Thompson, who will be remembered from their many thrilling escapades in “The Price of Fear,” , and other outstanding subjects. They are ably supported by Wilbur Mack who plays the part of the thief, and Monte Montague as the valet who outshines ail previous performances. He is responsible for most of the comedy relief.
