MANAWATU-OROUA SCHEME.

♦ NO GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY. The Government, can make no ptomise of assistance to the Ala-nawatu-Oroua Board in connection with its Hood protection scheme for the district. Mr. J. Linklaler, ALP., to-day received the following telegram front Hon. G. .W. Forbes, Prime Minister:— “I have to advise you that if i.s regret-led the Government can make no promise of assistance to the Ala-Jiawatu-Orona River Board’s flood protection scheme. “As yon are aware, there are many urgent matters which have to be provided for, and in view of the already comprehensive nature of the Government’s loan proposals it is regretted that consideration of Ihe question of a subsidy for the River 'Board must stand over for the present.”
