Ten thousand spectators witnessed lhe Wairarapa-Bush team bold their own against the British team at Afasterioii on Saturday to within 15 minntes of tlie close of the game, when Britain rattled on ten points. The game ended Britain lfi —AYairnrapa ti. From start to Imish there was no let-up and the pace was a cracker, the visitors having more left in them at the conclusion. At half-time the score was 3 all—a penalty kick by Fuller for Wairarapa and a try by Welsh for Britain. In the second
spell, until ten minutes from the end, the score stood at 9 —ti in favour of Britain. Not once during the mniclt did Wairarapa cross the British line. Fuller opened the score for Wairarapa wifh a penalty goal and Welsh equalised for Britain by crossing, but the kick failed i,i mill ilie major points and the first spell ended 3 all. Shortly after the opening, Xovis scored in the corner and (Black failed to goal— Britain (i —-Wairarapa 3. Foxton and Shannon juniors placed a competition match on Easton Park on Saturday last, before a fair crowd of spectators. The local team ran out easy winners, scoring- 19 points to Shannon’s nil. The game opened up raggedly, the Shannon forwards depending on kicks and rush tactics, which were easily stemmed by the Foxton backs. The locals were attempting in open ii]> the game, bid were some time in settling down. Anderson was over once under the goal posts, bid was held up. and Shannon got oui of a dangerous position. Croon ihcn kicked across and had Williams held the ball a try would have resulted. The yellows kept up the pressure, and Stevenson punted through. U'STfX BANNER COMPETITION. Primarv school football in the Hoi'owliemia district commenced on Saturday, Foxton playing Shannon at Shannon. The match resulted in an easy win for the visitors bv twentypoints to nil. Foxton won the toss and quickly went on the attack. The forwards were breaking through quickly and catching Shannon out of position. From a melee near
the Shannon goal line, T. Prentice secured and dived over. The kick by Coley was short. Foxton kept up the pressure and from the rush Coley potted a fine field goal. Shannon now woke up and kept Foxton busily repelling attacks. Bills and Coley were responsible for some tine defensive play. On Shannon tiring the 1)1 ue forwards took the ball at their loos for Colev to go over near the posts, lie converted his own try, and half time found the score foxtail 12—Shannon nil. The second half was one long attack by foxton, tine collaring by Roach and Reiter alone keeping them out. Bills and AlaePhail both scored ttie.-,, Coley converting one, leaving the game foxton 20—Shannon nil.
Special arrangements have been made for a record attendance at this evening's Surf Club euchre, to he held in the Town Hall supperroom. The winner of Die football competition will be announced during the evening.
