RESIDENCE DESTROYED BY FIRE.
LOCAL SETTLER’S LOSS
Shortly after I o'clock yesterday aftornoon ihe residence of 'Mr. and Mrs. C. Arens, off the Foxlon-Le-vin Rond, was totally destroyed by lire. At the time of the outbreak Mr. Arcus was busy on the farm and Mrs. Areus was at Mrs. William's residence nearby. The children were playing- about nearby and a girl was working' in the kitchen when she smelt smoke and opening the door leading off the kitchen found the place tilled with smoke. About the same time both Mr. and Mrs. Arens noticed that their house was on lire and made all basic back to their home but; arrived too late to do any good. Fanned by a strong wind the house was soon a mass of Haines and reduced to the ground. Mrs. Arens managed to rnsli in the front door and grab a few things out of her bedroom but Mr. and Mrs. Arens and family wore left with only what they stood up in. A relative staying with Mrs. Areus also lost all her belongings, including a return ticket to Cromwell. Mr. (! . Wood roof e happened to be passing-at the .time and brought Mrs. Areus and family into her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Parkin, of .lohnston Street. Moth house and contents were insured but not sullle.ienllv to by any means cover the loss an d Air. Arens will be a heavy loser. Mrs. Areas lost all her wedding presents.
The cause of the out break is a mystery as there was no tire in the front portion of the house during I ho dav.
