This is the last erv of my sonl, and I am afraid it will cost me my life.” The foregoing statement, made by a preacher in Soviet Russia, appears in a communication received in Sydney and referred to by the Kev. R. J. H. McGowan at the service in the Ashfield Presbyterian Church on May 4.
"If only you could for a moment imagine the life here!” the statement proceeds. “All preachers are cither in prison or banished. The villages are under the power of I car. During the next few days everyone will he forced to join life in the community or be imprisoned, banished, or put to death. Spiritual books are burnt on the spot, and a wild orgy ensues. Who could have l.ireseen it all? If you are able to help,/lo it at once, otherwise certain destruction is inevitable.” Mr. McGowan stated that the Russian Missionary Society was organising a forward movement to
l inch refugees, of whom there were hundreds of thousands scattered over European and other countries. In .France alone there were 500,000 refugees. If these refugees were reached with the Gospel they would, when they returned to Russia, carry the glad tidings with them.
