A GENEALOGICAL MISSION.
A party ol‘ Maoris is leaving for Rarotonga to-day by the Makura in an endeavour to discover traces of the relationship between the Maori race and the natives of.the Coo 1 !-; Croup, where generations ago the Maori mariners called on their way to Aotea-roa, leaving some of their number behind. The party consists of Raumoa Balnea vis (Wellington), Honnui fe Heuhcu (Tanpo), Wiremn Pot no (East Coast), Renata Tawepo (East Coast), Joe Marumaru ( Feililing), and Tai Mitchell (Rotorua). The Minister of Native Affairs (the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngala ) had intended to accompany the party, but lie" is now obliged to cancel the trip on account of the United Party leadership crisis. The delegation will be assisted by Judge 11. Carr (a relative of the late Sir -Tames Carroll), who is going by the Makura to relieve Judge Aysou for three months. The latter is to adjudicate in the north Auckland Native Land Court.
