FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held hist night to consider the Society's position with regard to finances, etc. There was a good attendance, and Air D. Christie was voted to the chair. The balance-sheet in connection with last year's operations was submitted by the secretary, and di.s----i-iosi'd the fai-l that the Society was in debt to the extent of about £ 13.

Mr Christie, in outlining the Society's position, saiil that receipts Cor last year totalled CMS os Sd, and payments £O4 ISs 3d, hut there u ere still accounts amount ing to £l7 17s lid outstanding, so that the Society had shown a loss on the year of £l3 17s Ld, which was not a very satisfactory state of affairs. The secretary (Air E. J. .Murphy | had worked hard and had obtained a number of new members. The meeting had been called to consider'any suggestions or recommendations which could be adopted ai the annual meeting. Personally lie thought it would he a good idea if I lie Society held its shows in the ihcre would he £3, against £7 for Masonic Hall in future. The rent the Town Hall, and when the latter structure had boon destroyed by rive the Society had staged one of the prettiest shows ever held in the Masonic Hall. It was most convenient for the purpose now. It might .also he well to revert to inserting advertisements in the schedule and to have the two schedules i ombined and printed in hook form. Rev. Walton endorsed Air Christie's remarks, and suggested a < barge for Ihc printed schedule and the raising of members’ subscriptions fees to 7s (id.

Miss Hughes suggetod a stall for the sale ot seedlings which members would be able to subscribe, and Mrs Easton considered it would be a step in the right direction to revert to a cake and sweet stall at lilt m e exhibitions.

Rev. Walton considered Lhe Soictv was very liberal with its prize money, and possibly «. saving could be effected in this connection. It. was decided to place (he various recommendations before the annual meeting, to be held on June 13th, and in the meantime the committee consisting of Messrs D. Christie, Walton, and the secretary and Mrs S. Easton and Afisscs lluglms and B. Gower, will go into the matter of revising the list of prizes and schedule generally.
