INTERFERING WITH TELEPHONE.
BOOKMAKER'S WjTFE FINED £IOO. Napier, Last Night. Judgment was given by Mr A. M. .Mowlam, R.M., this afternoon iri the case in which Mona Catherine Yen was charged with wilfully interfering with the working of the telephone in her residence. The Magistrate said the house had been raided by the police under a search warrant and subsequently, defendant’s husband was charged under the Gaming Act. The telephone wires plainly had been in(erferred with in such a manner dial they could be controlled from various parts of the house. The question resolved itself into whellmr defendant had wilfully interfered with the wires. She must have known her husband's occupation and then il became a question whejlmr she had allowed the telephone to lie interfered with. Eis Worship found tliai she did s<> and that the only matter remaining was the question of penalty. Defendant was liable to a fine of £IOO or one year's imprisonment. ITe saw no reason why he should nol impose the maximum fine, which he did.
