PAKETTAS V. MAORIS. The annual match between the Pakcha and Maori teams took place on Easton Park yesterday. There was a good crowd present. The Maoris won the loss and from ihe Pakelm kick-off the Reds (Maoris) immediately attacked. T. Pa.raI a making a line run and kicking I h rough. Dull, Ihe Pakelm full-back, fumbled and the Whites were in dil'lieulties. A scrum ensued and Alda Johnson saved with a nice line kick. The Whites again went to Ihe at I nek and T. Pa rata getting off side, Roddick made a good hut fruitless kick at goal. Meta Johnson again saved well and Stevenson, with a good line kick, placed the Whites in a good position. A good passing rush was indulged in hv the Pakehas, Stevenson coming round smartly to handle a second time. Roddick had another shot at goal from a free kick hut just missed the points. Pro in a scrum, Darues opened ii[i well, bur Procter failed to hold a dillioult pass and the movement broke down. At this stage the Pakehas were pressing and once were almost through, Meta. Johnson saving with a brilliant line kick. I'n rata was oi'l‘-si<lc again and Stevenson had a shot but missed. Barnes set his hacks going from a serum but Thompson failed to hold the ball when in a good scoring position, •iidinsoii nmrlced and relieved ihe i>i ensure. The Maoris now look a. The Whites returned to file attack, Stevenson making a line jinky run but he was not supported and the Reds, rushing I Jay lo the oher end, drove home a determined attack and Pa rata slipped over in the corner for a try. A line out ensuing from the kick oil, Andrews kicked through, but Johnson saved. Prom a serum the Whiles hooked the ball and it passed from Barnes to West-wood, Stevenson, Procter and Thompson, who was forced out. Maihi was next prominent with a solo run Imt was forced out. The Whites now essayed a passing rush hut their back line did not seem to function so well after Stevenson's retirement. The forwards were lighting hard at tins stage, Andrews, Satherley, Wilson and Roddick on the Pakeha side, ami .Maihi, (J. McDonald and Parala of the Maoris, showing up. Roberls then attempted a corkscrew run hut did not make much progress. Off-side play gave the Whites a free kick but the Maoris came again, only good tackling by Barnes and Westwood keeping them out. Andrews broke away from the tight and then Bryant made a good run but support was lacking. The Maoris then returned to the attack, Thompson saving with a good line kick. The Maoris were not to be denied, however, and from'a forward rush Wallace forced his way over to score wide out. Aleta Johnson missed a difficult hick and time sounded, leaving the Alaoris the victors by 12 points to 3. Mr J, O’Connor gave a splendid
interpretation of the rules as referee. STEVENSON’S JAW BROKEN. Medical examination of Stevenson’s jaw disclosed the fact that he had suffered a fracture and he was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital last night. He is reported to be progressing quite satisfactorily.
SURF CLUB DEFEATS BULLS. The Fox ton Surf and Life Saving Football team has extended its games as far north as Bulls, the team paying- its lirst visit to that town yesterday when it succeeded in defeating Ihe home fifteen by eleven points to nine.
Bulls kicked off against the sun and after lifieen minutes of fast play, the Bulls hacks were set in motion from a serum which ended in them crossing in the corner. The kick failed. Almost immediately after the kie'k-off Bulls again crossed the Eoxton line as the result of a forward rush. With six points to pick up, Eoxton pressed and Alsop, securing the ball, raced almost the length of ihe held to score. Ilirini failed with the kick and the spell ended three points in Bullskfavour. ■With the commencement of' play in the second spell, Foxtail attacked, hut off-side {day spoilt a promising movement and Bulls, following up a long kick, again scored. The Eoxton forwards were now {lacking- well and keeping the ball in Bulls’ twenty-iive. From a lineout Bulls were penalised for offside play and .J. Hirini kicked a good goal.
With only a tew minutes to go, Foxton pressed hard and Melton, following up a kick, secured and crossed for a line try. J. Hirini added the major points and time was called, the final scores being Foxton 11, Bulls 9.
At the conclusion of the game the Foxton players were entertained to refreshments by the Bulls team.
