ADVERTISING THE PORT
SECRETARY TO INTERVIEW MERCHANTS.
Mr M. E. Perreau brought up the question of advertising the benefits to be derived by merchants t.liroie-h procuring their merchandise via the the port of Post on at yesterday's meeting of the Poxton Harbour Board. Tie considered the Board should adopt the methods of the Railway Department and advertise A standing advertisement in the newspapers should greatly assist in popularising the port.
Mr R. Edwards said that he had had a similar scheme in view for some time and had discussed the matter with several people. The idea was an excellent one. Mr I. A. Nash said he did not see that any great benefit could accrue from the Board undertaking advertising in newspapers. Possibly if the secretary adopted the Railway Department's idea of a canvass of merchants it would he heller. If lie devoted a day to looking up Palmerston N. business people and an - other for Levin, and so on throughout the district, it might prove advantageous. Jocularly lie remarked
“Will la about you addressing the I’iilniersioii North Lunch Club on the benetiis to lie derived by shipping through the port oi li'oxlon, Mr Perron nP’ Mr Perreau, in his eni liusia.sin lor the port, even agreed to do that.
It was decided that the secretary and Mr Perreau undertake a canvass of district business people as time permits.
