11 UN < >.\L.I N A TIG N A L SCHOOLS, RESOLUTIONS OP PROTEST. Wellington, April 23. The Grand Lodge of.the Loyal Grange Institution, at its annual sessions 10-day, passed, the following resolutions:—
'l'lial public attention he called !<• the recent pronouncement in reference to the attendance of Roman Catholic children at State schools by A reliliishoj) .RJed/wuod,
“We are of opinion that this proiioiineemenl is bitterly sectarian in u--: tone and is calculated to place a handicap upon many children in this country, tending to create and perpetrate in the minds of the young people, feelings of antipathy toward those who differ from them in religions mutters, in the estimation of this Grand Lpdge, the lime has arrived in the history of this country when attendance at State primary schools should he made compulsory to all children. Further, we express the conviction that if the State schools are not lit; places for Roman Catholics I''' l attend, as scholars, the State schools should lie closed to members of that Church as teachers.”
