PONT ON MAN’S STATEMENT. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of James Stanley .vi’.'tiisliokl, labourer, of Foxlmi, called for Thursday afternoon last, lapsed for want of a quorum. There was a deficiency of £ll4 13/6 shown in the statement, there being no secured creditors.

In bis persona.) statement, bankrupt stated that he resided at Foxliiu and was a married man with three children dependent, upon him. One other'hoy, aged 15, had been in work intermittently during the last, eight, months while, for about four years pa&l, bankrupt had been employed at 2/- per hour working time. He had contracted pneumonia in May, 1929, however, and was unemployed for four months, Lour weeks ol' which lie had been a patient in the Palmerston .North Hospital. He had also suffered injury during the course of employment and was in receipt of accident eompensalions on two-thirds of his regular earnings for a period of two mouths. Ilis wife had been an inmate of the hospital for periods totalling nine mouths during the last two and a half years while three of the children were in the hospital in 1929 for periods of 19, 25 and 41 days respectively. As a. result of l he illness of his family and himself the household accounts mounted up and he had been unable Lo earn sufficient to discharge the debts and, at the same time, maintain the family. His wife was still in delicate health and required treatment and medicine and she had been forbidden by the doctor to do housework. As one of his creditors had taken action against him and threatened further proceedings and, in view uf the fact that he had no assets and no prospect of meeting his obligations, lie had found it necessary to life the petition in bankruptcy.
