SLAP FOR SURGEONS. PILLS v. KNIFE. London, March 16. "I regretfully notice that intellectually physicians arc advancing fur more rapidly than surgeons,’’ writes Dr. Erwin Lick, an eminent German surgeon, in “The Doctor’s Mission,” just translated. "A great change is taking place. Surgery is becoming a soulless, unintelligent handicraft. The art of healing as practised by physicians is reasserting its leadership.” A prominent London surgeon, commenting on Mr. Lick’s views, expressed the opinion that more operations are performed now than ever, yet medicine is .supplanting operations in many cases. Osteopathy is increasing by leaps and bounds, and electrical treatment is growing.
