Fifty years ago a Halifax clmrch service was “broadcast” by telephone to Saltaire. The mechanism of the old clock in the- tower of Salisbury Cathedral existed as long ago as 1380. Of the 50,771 blind persons revdsteied in Britain, no fewer than 30,485 are classified as unemployable. It is proposed to form a British School of Archaeology in Iraq in memory of Miss Gertrude Bell, who left £OOOO towards its foundation. The power capacity of the Passenger Air Fleet of Europe, which comprises some 730 planes, corresponds to that of 10 large ocean-going liners.
