FOXTON FIRE BOARD.

EIGHTH ANNUM, MEETING

The eight ahnnual meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was held in the secretary’s office on Friday, presided over by Mr. A. H. Clerke (Wellington), chairman. Also present were Messrs C. J. Gray (Wellington), J. K. Hprnblow, M. E. Perreau and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheiiea). Prior to the annual meeting business in connection with the quarterly meeting- was discussed as follows : NEW EXTINGUISHERS. The chairman reported that since last- meeting matters in connection with special extinguishers for benzine fires had been finalised and three extinguishers added to the brigade equipment, they -now being attached to the fire engine. GENERAL. The secretary’s action in orderng a further 500 feet of hose was endorsed. Accounts amounting to £ll9 13/1 were passed for payment. QUARTERLY REPORT. The superintendent’s quarterly report was read and adopted as follows: — The report stated chat one new member had been elected. (During the period there was one fire —Mr. O. Dawson’s house in Reeve Street. Owing to the late receipt of the alarm and the distance of the house from the high pressure water mains, a total loss resulted. During the period under review 12 practices were held with an average attendance of 12.7. The engine, hose and equipment are in 'good order. The “Frowave” extinguishers have arrived and are being fitted to the engine. 1 beg to recommend the purchase of 500 feet of “Camel” hose. With the approval of the secretary 200 feet of old and well-wom hose have been sold to the Borough Waterworks at Gd per foot. I would recommend the purchase of 3 pairs of working trousers to replace worn-out pairs and also one dress uniform. As in the past I wish to apply for the annual boot allowance. I would suggest that the placing of lights in the bathroom and-kitchen be considered in the near future. The completion of _ wiring these two rooms would equip the station with electric light in every compartment. I would also recommend the placing on the estimates of a grant for the 1931 Demonstration of which the location is not yet decided. During the quarter the Brigade received two challenges for the Coley Billiard Shield from the Feilding and Palmerston North Brigades respectively and in each case the local men were successful in retaining the trophy. The Brigade was .represented at the recent Whangarei U.F.B.A. Conference by the Brigade secretary (Mr. A. W. Walls). I expect to be taking my annual leave from 2nd to Kith April inclusive, and propose to hand over control to Acting-Deputy McArtney during that period.” 5 ANNUAL MEETING. Prior to the commencement of business in connection with the annual meeting Mr. M. E. Perreau moved that Mr. A. H. He felt sure members would be pleased to see him re-elected to the position of chairman for a further term. Mi’. J. K.
