The Manawatu County Council met at Sanson on Tuesday, Cr. W. E. Barber (chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. 11. H. Hunt. J. Boyce, W. E. Pearce, 11. -J. Pcrrott, J. F. MclCelvie. iCIORRiESPONDENCE.

From the Public Works Department, forwarding £2592 13/10 representing constructional grants and subsidies on main highways. Received.

From the Treasury, forwarding £2 7/(> being fines under by-laws from the Feilding Court for the quarter ended December 31. —Received.

From Public Works Department, agreeing to the re-sealing of the Sanson-Bulls highway on the. understanding that no claim is made for subsidy until after March 31. —-The engineer reported that the estimated cost was £BOO and it was agreed to proceed with the work. The council will do the work with its own plant. From the Public Works Department, authorising an additional sum of £53 on a £2 for £1 basis for further maintenance on the Tangimouna highway.—Received.

From the Manawatu Automobile Association, recommending the removal of the traffic domes at Sanson "as it was considered-that they would eventually he the cause of an accident. The association was prepared to assist in the cost of substituting .white lines or steel studs. —-Agreed to. From Manawatu Automobile Association, asking' what arrangements had been made for altering the signs at Sanson and Foxton when (lie Poxton-Levin road is blocked by Hood. —The question was referred to (he traffic inspector to prepare a report on the best method of notifying motorists when the rortd is under water. The tramway manager reported on the Sanson tramway for February as follows : —The chief items of traffic were: Grain 10 tons, minerals and manure 119 tons, merchandise, 38 tons, cheese 91 crates, eggs 117 crates, cream 77 cans, sheep (14 trucks, metal 94 trucks, timber 2933 s.ft., wool 78 bales. The accounts show a debit balance of £BO 1/8. —Received. TREAS IiREIP S REPORT. The treasurer reported on the county iiuances as follows: — County fund a-e dbt., £IBO4 16/2; main highways loan a/e edt., £4Bll 9/8; loan a/e edt., £25 15/7; net edt. balance, £3032 9/1. The amounts available for expenditure were made known as follows: — Sandon riding, £54 10/10; Mt. Stewart, £SO 11/9; Waitohi £9l 3/7; Rongotea, £2O 17/7; Carnarvon, £223 19/2; Awahou £O7 7/7. Over-expended, lvuwa Kavva riding £IBB 8/9. RATE ROLL ALTERATIONS.

The following alterations were made on the rate roll: —R. H. Barber to S. W. Barber, pt. secs. 67/8, 101/2 and 103, lot 24, blk. VIH, Mt. Robinson; P. Robert Estate to D. H. anil J. T. Funnell, lot 1, sec. 317, Carnarvon; W. E. L. Banks to Mrs. F. Merritt, lot 1, pt. sees. 73 and 71, Sandon; H. J. Fagan to J. C. Fagim, pt. 11, sec. 19, Ilutt Small Farm Block; E. Skerrock to H. J. F. Parker, sec. 38, blk. XHI, Kairanga S,D.; H. G. Remnant to H. L. Remnant, sec. 7s and lot 2 of sec. 11 Makowhai; W. Dent to E. A. Jones, pt. sec. A, lots 216/7, 228/31, blk. XV, Rangitoto; J. Green to R. J. T. Masters, pt. sec. 101/2, Sandon. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The traffic inspector (Mr. W. Berry) reported that several persons had failed to comply with the notices sent out to them to cut blackberry, gqrse, etc., growing on the county roads. If no attempt is made by these persons to deal with the matter, it will be necessary to lay information against them. A cheque for £5 19/9 has been received for damage done to Ludlow’s bridge by a car on Boxing Day. An information has been laid against a lorry driver for driving his lorry at a greater speed than that allowed by the regulations. During the Bulls races, two men were placed on the Bulls bridge to regulate traffic, and .one was stationed at the corner of AwahuriFeildiug road and Stewart’s lines. Building permits to the value of £2197 have been applied for and fees amounting to £4 15/- collected.
