EDUCATIONAL.

—♦ D.H. SCHOOLS’ SECONDARY TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Southern North Island branch of above Association was held in Palmerston North last Saturday. Mr. F. A. Mason presided over the meeting, which was attended by the headmasters and members of the staffs of the following District High Schools: Marton D.H.S., Foxton D.H.S., Eketahuna D.H.S., Pahiatua- D.H.S., and Levin D.H.S. HEADQUARTERS 1930. Correspondence was read from the Christchurch branch asking this branch to take over the executive work for the Dominion during 1930. It was unanimously decided to accept the responsibility, the office hearers of the branch to do the Dominion work. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers were elected as follows : President, Mr. R. J. Foss; vicepresidents, Messrs F. A. Mason and N. L. Wilson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Casey; committee, Miss Holgerson, Messrs J. Marsh, V. Parsons, N. Burdes, W. Thomas. A discussion took place as to the most effective way of carrying out the aims of the Association. It was ultimately decided to devise some means for direct approach to the Minister. Mr. Mason gave a compresensive survey of topics which he considered were of importance to members. He further promised to embody, the suggestions in a circular for distribution among all D.H. School teachers in the Dominion. Soane of the phases of work in District High’ Schools formed an interesting discussion, special reference being made to science, languages and agriculture. VOTE OF THANKS: A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs F. A. Mason (President) and 0. Doel (secretary) for the work during the past year. FEDERATION OF TEACHERS. It was decided that the D.H.S. Association endeavour to acquire representation on the Federation of Teachers. A vote of thanks was passed to Mi’. Hancox for use of Technical College Building for the meeting.
