BENZINE THIEF IMPRISONED
Auckland, March 4. “It was a mean theft,” said the Magistrate. “Wagstaff went round in his taxi with spare cans and a piece of tubing to steal the benzine from parked cars. HoAvever, one thing in his favour is that he did not enter the witness-box and tell a. lot of lies. He pleaded guilty, .but this is not a finable offence, i’eople have to leave valuable cars in parking places and men must not go about stealing from them.” These remarks Avere made by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when a taxi driver, Ernest Isaac Cyril Wag-staff, aged 32, was charged with stealing four gallons of benzine and a benzine tank cap of a total value of 10/trom a motor-car left in a parking area near the Ferry Buildings. Wagstaff was sent to gaol for one month.
