GRASS FIRE AT HIMATANGI

An extensive grass tire whichi an sod considerable damage to the Government’s young pinns insignis plantation on the Foxton-Hima - tangi road about two miles south of Sorensen’s corner occurred yesterday afternoon. The outbreak was noticed shortly after 2 o’clock when the Eoxtoii-Pnlniersfon North train delayed over an hour through a mishap at Foxton, passed by and it is I bought t hat a spark from the engine was the cause of the fire. The fire originated in (tie long dry grass of the old plantation, which lias recently been cut out and replanted with young trees which were showing good growth. An easterly breeze soon fanned it through the plantation and into Mr. •John Chrystall’s property but here il died out without doing any serious damage. No stock were in tlie burnt out area which comprised some thirty acres.
