LIFE SAVING AND SURF CLUB.

In order to assist the recently organised local Life Saving and Surf Club, the Island Bay Surf Club sent up a contingent during tlie week-end to give a public exhibition and further instruct members of the local dub.

The visitors arrived on .Saturday mid wen* billeted by Mrs. Wallace and Messrs llie'*kc.v, Mitchell and Kirkland. In the evening they were formally welcomed by Mr. Perreau, president of' the local dub, at a social function in the Masonic Hall.

Demonstrations were given at the* ocean bench on Sunday by both the visitors and local team. The afternoon demonstrations were witnessed by a large crowd of spectators and collections totalled about CIO. The weather conditions were ideal for tlu* demonstrations which proved both interesting and instructive.

The visitors were suitably thanked by the local Club president and Mr. Hunter responded on behalf of the visiting surfers.

The 'Club is indebted to Messrs K. Austin, R. Goldingham, H. Mitchell and T. Alsop for conveying tin* team to and from the seaside and also to Messrs W. Collier and Small of Palmerston North, who were in attendance, Mr. Collier addressing the crowd on the beach during the afternoon on the objects of the Club. A special vote of thanks is due to Mr. S. Austin for his helpful assistance.
