Captain L. Haves, of the Marine Department, has been carrying out a. biological investigation into the habits of Hie whitebait in the Mal ill wain River and tributaries during tin' past few days.
Mr. 0. W. Garrard, senior inspector of schools in the Auckland Education district, died at Auckland last night after an illness extending over a week. Tie was aged (52 and was to retire at the end of next month. Mr. E. T. Jackson, of the local Bank of New Zealand, is at present acting as relieving manager at: Kongoten. lie will be away from Foxtou for four weeks. Mr. J. W. C. Ogle, of Inglewood, is acting as relieving officer in Mr. Jackson’s place during liis absence.
Mr. A. R. McOorkindale, of the icw-nl branch of! the ,Bnnk of New Zealand, has received noliee of bis transfer to the Keilding brunch urn! will be leaving Foxton at an early date. Mr. McOorkindnle’s departure from Foxlmi will be regretted as he has, apart from being an obliging and courteous bank offieial, actively interested himself in pradically all branches of sport in the town. As a member ,of the Foxton Rugby Football Club he was a player of promise last season while he proved himself equally successful on the tennis courts and in aeqnulie events. Tie was also one of those instrumental in the formation of the Frixton Surf and Life Saving Club, a member of the patrol and official of the club. As a result of liis departure the Tennis and Surf Clubs will have to find new secretaries.
