COOK STRAIT SWIM.
WEBSTER, TO TRY AGAIN. TRAINING AT NELSON. R. Webster, the Auckland longdistance swimmer, has been in Nelson for some weeks training' in anticipation of making an attempt to swim Cook Strait later in the summer. He attempted to cross the Strait in 1927, [but had to give up after going eight miles. The "second attempt will be made next month or early in March, a start being niloclc from the South Island. Webster took the water at Trafalgar Street Bridge, near the mouth of the Maitai River last Sunday and landed on the Taliuna Beach an hour and 20 minutes later. The water was rough at the time, and the tide was on the ebb. A dinghy, of which Webster’s trainer, Mr. M. Bloomfield, was an occupant, started to accompany the swimmer, (but it got swamped off the Gasworks W;lia(rf, and Webster did the rest of the journey unaccompanied, landing on the beach in good fettle. He has already made several hai'bour swims through the cut dn the Boulder (Bank and back by way of the old entrance.
