PERSONAL.
•Air. and Mrs. S. Austin and family are spending a holiday at the seaside. The friends of Mr. F. Dorset will legket to learn that he is at present incapacitated from business suffering from a poisoned hand. A.lrs. T. Hughes, of Robinson St., returned to Foxton on Thursday after spending a holiday in Ohakune.
Miss Thwaites, of Palmerston North, is spending the week end with Al’rs. J. Martin, of Whyte Street.
There is very little improvement reported in the condition of Capt. C. Larsen, who is seriously ill at .Mannwatu Heads. The. friends of Air. N. Cresswell will be pleased to learn that' lie is able to get about again after his serious illness, but it will be some time before he will be able to return- to work.
Mr. .J. 11. Perrctt, of Sanson, met with an accident at his homestead last. Tuesday. He was adjusting a surcingle while seated on his hofrse, which caused the animal to rear and unseat Mr. Perrett, who was thrown heavily to the ground. Air. Perrett was badly shaken up and as a result was confined to his bed, but his many friends throughout the district will be pleased to lemm that lie was able W get about yesterday. The death occurred suddenly at Aiidhurst on Thursday of Air. J. G. Harkness, of Te Horo. Deceased, who was /!) years of age, was very well known and highly respected, and had lived in this district for a number of years. He had been closely identified with dairying matters for many years, and was chairman of the Te Iloro Dairy Co. The interment will take place at Stratford.
The death occurred at, Levin yesterday of Mr. Edward Malcolm at the age of 84 years. Deceased was an old and respected resident of the district and was at one time employed on the Alanawatu railway and later on the Government l’ailway as guard. He was a veteran of 62 years standing in Freemasonry and the funeral will take place at Levin to-morrow with Alasonic honours.
•Mr. Clio Shannon, of Wellington, who used to visit Foxton during Mr. J. C. Whyte’s term as secretary of the local Racing Club, was a visitor here to-day. In those days Air. Fred Young, agent of Levin and Co., owned a first-class galloper in the grey gelding, “Flying Shot.” In later years Air. Shannon ,a!'tended the meeting as assistant secretary during the term of office of Messrs Keith, W. Grey, and Endell Wank t lyn. Being an official of . the Wellington Racing ,Ciub, Air. Shannon was unable to ■ attend recent meetings held on Anniversary Day. He is at present holiday-making at. Levin, and will atetend the meeting on AA’ednesday.
