Aii exhibition oi‘ foolishness was witnessed at Island Bay, Wielling'ton, recently. A swimmer, when well out, suddenly threw up both hands, and the life-men on shore m'ade haste to [respond to what is the recognised sign of trouble. After this action he .swam on leisurely, eventually climbing on to a launch. The would-jbe rescuers, thinking that he would be exhausted, went to the boat, hut when they arrived they were informed that he had only been attracting the attention of somebody ashore. An official of the Royal Lifesaving Society mentioned that such an act would be met with a £5 line in Sydney, and no doubt something of the same nature could be instituted in Wow Zealand with advantage.
