BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

MEETING HEED A'T SEASIDE,

The Foxton. Beach Improvement Committee held a most successful and .enthusiastic meeting at the seaside on Monday evening. Mr. .J. Linklater, M.P., occupied the chair and a large .number of beach residents and visitors were in attendance. A special vote of thanks v.as accorded to Mr. A. Dawicik, the retiring chairman of the committee, for the work he had done during his long term .of office. Mr. M. E. Perrea.u was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing year.

The question of tree planting was discussed at some length and it was decided.to place on record the committee’s appreciation of the good work .‘being hone in this connection by . the Foxton Harbour Board. Appreciative reference was also made to the good work of the Manawatu County Council in keeping the beairb road in as good order as possible throughout the year. The question of the .road access to the river, beach was fully discussed, it ‘being unanimously agreed that the road should he formed to come round the shoulder of the existing sandhill and thus lead on to the beach directly in front of the Post Office store. It is considered that this road would not he sub-. jeeted to the driving sand which accompanies the prevailing wind and, therefore, would easily he kept in good order throughput, the whole year. It was decided to approach the Manawatu County Council with the request that this deviation be made in the road and to offer the Council £lO towards the cost of the work.

The question of two additional street lamps was gone into, it being pointed out that a light was needed at Hartley’s corner just before the approach to the beach is reached, whilst another one was also required on the main road at the corner of the street near Mr. Thomas's .residence. Mr. Linklater promised to bring the matter before the HarBour Board at its next meeting, when he hoped that the necessary authority foir this work would he granted. The necessity of having a Life Saving Patrol established at the Heads is fully realised by the committee, who intend to leave no stone unturned in an endeavour to have a iQlnb formed and in operation at an early, date. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs T. Chaffey, A. C, Thomas, M. E. Perreau and Bastion and Captain Larsen was formed immediately go into this important matter and at is hoped that their efforts will meet with success. An invitation has been forwarded to the Maranni Surf Club at Lyall Bay, who some time ago promised to send a team to Foxton for the purpose of giving a. display of life saving, with the idea of stimulating the formation of a live club Tocally.
