Mr. and. Mrs. J. Linklater, ac - companied by their family, are spending the holidays at the local seaside. The death took place at Palmdrston North yesterday of Pastor M. Christensen, of the Luthyran Church, aged 73 years'. At the'ago of 30, the deceased gentleman set sail for New Zealand and landed at Napier in. 1886. The ReV. Christensen's first charge was that of Maurieeville, Wairafapa, where he was stationed for nine years. In 1895, the Rev. Christensen succeeded the Rev. Sass, who was the first minister of the Lutheran Church in Palmerston North and last year,• he retired from active work after 34 years*of ministry. . The death is reported from Wellington of Mr. Thomas Frederick Martin, barrister and solicitor. The late Mi*. Martin was born in Kent, England,’and was educated at Torquay and Heidelberg, Germany. He arrived in New Zealand in 1879, and was in 1884 appointed Town. Clerk and City Solicitor of Wellington. Mr. Martin was appointed counsel in 1891 to the Municipal Association of New Zealand, and in 1894 to the New, Zealand Counties Association. Later he was appointed solicitor to the Electric Power Boards Association. Mi*. Martin for many years past was considered the leading authority in New* ■Zealand on municipal and local body law. He was well-known also 'through his connection with the Anglican Church, was Chancellor of the Diocese of Wellington, and published a book on church law, as well as several works on legal subjects.
