.Surprise that such excellent work could .be done by a boy without the use of ‘his arms was expressed by members of the Southland Education Board at its last meeting 1 , when the senior inspector (Mr. A. McNeil) produced for their inspection the work book of a boy at the Nightcaps School. This boy, who has been armless since birth, is 14 years of age, and is in Standard IV. In the absence of his arms the boy has developed one foot to such a remarkable extent that it has taken the place of an arm. By holding a pen between his toes he can write and draw lines with dexterity and neatness.' In addition, he has a good voice, and is most popular among his schoolmates.
