Tike question, whether it was justified in continuing the payment of Gd each for rats’ tails was - dismissed 'by the Ashburton County Council last week. One member said the council was throwing away money. It was decided that the price be reduced to 3d, although some members said that (id should continue to be paid from a sanitation point of view. It was decided to ask the Health Department to pay a subsidy on the amount paid out on the rats’ tails.
A patriotic member of the Napier business community who recently received a package of goods which he had ordered from London, was somewhat surprised to find, upon opening the package, that the goods were made in Germany. This was not' the only surprise of the packet, for the goods were wrapped in Italian newspaper, upon the baeik of which was an article dealing with a proposed match between “il campiene . Itali-Argentino Vittoria Camipolo,” and “col campiene Australiano Tom Heeney.”
