PERSONAL.

The Governor-General was on Thursday evening the guest at a Masonic gathering at Dunedin, and was presented with an address from all the Otago Lodges, and a set of gavels made of New Zealand wood for his Mother Lodge in Scotland. 1

A visitor to Foxton is Mr. John lveay, of Mount Albert, Auckland, who is on a visit to his son Mr. .T. F. Reay, of'Ravensworth Place. Mr. Reay, despite his 91 summers, enjoys good health and prior to settling in Auckland was a wellknown settler in the 'Pahiatua district.

Many residents of this coast will learn with regret of the death at Auckland of Mr. Arthur Holmes, who was for a number of years on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand in Wellington and Wanganui. After leaving the bank he was with Messrs Abraham and Williams at Palmerston North, and then settled first in Whangarei and later at Auckland, where he had been for several years.

Mr. All. Fraser, who lias been clerk to the Moutoa Drainage Board since its inception tendered Iris resignation at Thursday’s night’s meeting. Members eulogised the faithful services of Mr. Fraser, which were feelingly acknowledged. Mr. G. Fraser was unanimously appointed to the position and it was confidently expressed that he would make a worthy sudcessor to his father.

Mrs. C. Symons, late infant mistress of the local District High School, paid a visit to the infant department at the school yesterday afternoon and (entertained the little ones at a dolls’ party. Judg-. ing'by the joyful sounds that came from that quarter of the building a right royal time was spent. The headmaster, on behalf of the little ones, suitably thanked Mrs. Symons for the kindly interest she still maintains in the school.
