THE SHANNON BURGLARY
POLICE INSPECTOR'S REPLY TO CRITICISM.
When the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Company’s store at Shannon was ransacked recently and nearly £9O worth of. goods stolen the resident constable was absent on leave. The Shannon Borough Council at its next meeting decided to write to the Inspector of Police, Palmerston North (Inspector J. Simpson), resenting the action of the Police Department in leaving the town and district without'adequate police, protection during the absence of Constable Blaikie. In his reply the inspector states that the town and district were placed under the supervision of the Poxton police during the short period of the resident constable’s absence. Owing to the law-abiding reputation of Shannon and district he had deemed this adequate police protection for the time being. The inspector states, however, that he will note, the council’s resolution for future .guidance.
