The clever " and popular young English star, Mabel Poulton, returns to the screen as Polly, “The Alley Cat,” in the highly entertain ing British Dominion’s Film of that name, which is showing at the Town Halil to-night. Miss Poulton has appeared in-many and varied roles, within the past few. months, her most recent performance being T’-mala in '“The Silent House,” v here her acting and versatility, as usual, won unstinted praise. In her new role of Polly, the darling of Limehouse and the neighbouring slums, the young English star again achieves honours as an actress whose powers of characterisation seem endless. Hans Steinhoff, the brilliant director of “The Alley Cat” has unfolded and produced this unusual story of Anthony [parlyle’s in a novel and exciting manner. Opening with a mysterious murder in a shady East-end den, djramtic situations, blended with an infectious comedy element, follow closely upon one another, and the audience has the peculiar sensation of watching the numerous characters becoming hopelessly entangled within a mesh of mystery and suspicion which, eventually, straightens itself out in an extremely startling /and unexpected climax.
