MOUTOA SATURDAY AFTER- - NOON SERVICE.
Mr. G. F. Smith brought up the question of the 'advisability of arranging for a Saturday afternoon char-a-banc service flrom Moutoa to Foxtail to enable mill employees to get into town. At present, lie said, there was no such conveyance and the men employed at Whitaunni and Poplar had to get into town as best they could, many of them as a result, taking advantage of a ser-' vice which took; them elscAvhere. When the Shannon Bridge Ava.s down Fox ton benefited considerably as there was no conveyance to take (he men to Shannon, but iioav with the bridge up and no service this way they were all making into Shannon. It would be well worth the while of the business people of Foxton to subsidise if necessary a service to Foxton leaving Whitaunui at about 1.30 p.m. for Foxton on a Saturday afternoon and calling in at Poplar. There was no difficulty about getting hack as a char-a-banc left Foxton for Moutoa at 5 p.m. and after the pictures on Saturday night while a suitable service also ran on Sunday. Members endorsed Mr. Smith’s views and considered a service avouhl benefit local business people to a large extent. Messrs Smith and (Christie were deputed to interview local business people with the object of arranging for a subsidy if necessary for the inducement of a reguiair Saturday afternoon service as outlined.
