METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES,
The anniversary services in connection with tihe adiove school lield on iSnnday, were a great success. The church Was beautifully decorated .with flowers and the day was fine. The Rev. W. !Deckett, of Levin, delivered very helpful and inspiring addresses. At the morning service he based his address on the words, “The gate of the Temple which is called (Beautiful” —Acts 3 —2. The preacher said that as the gate called “Beautiful” was the finest- and most important of the gates of the. magnificent temple, built by Herod the Great, so the Sunday School was the most important of. the gates leading into the church to-day. Hence the need for teachers gifted and devoted, who can inculcate into the minds of the children the eternal .truths of Christ's Gospel. The minister said the call was imperative for a wider diffusion of biblical truth in these days, when youthful depravity was causing concern among our magistrates and judges. In the afternoon speaking from St. John’s Gospel 20 —20, Mr. Beckett gave a very interesting address on “Hands.” He showed that the children’s hands could (be used to please the King of Heaven by doing loving deeds of Ikindness, by carrying on good and honest work and faithful service in our every-day life and by never defiling our hands ' by any sinful practice. In the evening the sermon was especially addressed to young people, the text being taken from Proverbs 4 —23: “Keep thy heart with • all-diligence, fofr out of it are the issues of life.” The speaker stressed the necessity of young men and women grading their health resources, name and reputation and counselled his hearers to emulate the example at the late 1 General C. G. Gordon, who gave" his sympathy to the suffering, his wealth to the poor and his heart to God. The congregations for the day were good especially in the afternoon, When the Presbyterian and Salvation Army Sunday Schools attended, a feature that was much / appreciated bv all at the Methodist Sunday School. The singing, which was a special feature of., the day, was very enjoyable and favourably commented upon and reflected cre--dit upon Mr. R. T.. Betty, as conductor and M(i‘S. Dorset, organist, assisted Iby some instrumentalists from Levin. Last evening the Methodist Ladies’ Guild entertained the Sunday school pupil si to a tea-in the schoolroom.
