WELLINGTON AIR PAGEANT.

14 ’PLANES TAKE PART.

Fourteen ’planes from all over New 'Zealand were present at the Wellington Aero Club’s first pageant held at the Rongotai airport on Saturday afternoon before an' immense crowd of spectators, both inside and outside the enclosed field.

A strong northerly necessitated great care on the ground work of the ’planes. The events included a taxying parade of machines, a landing competition, bombing formation flying, the Wellington aerial derby, a ‘height estimating contest and a display of aerobatics by Captain Burrell in a defence Gloster Grebe.

The flying displayed wap of a very high order but had 'management, particularly in the aerial deiiby and height estimating, caused considerable dissatisfaction among the spectators and generally the announcing was very poor. The landing competition was won by (Captain M. C. McGregor, of the Hamilton Airways, Captain H. Park, in Air. O. ‘Cottrell’s mionocoupe being second. Captain AlcGregor was also the winner of the aerial derby, Air. D. Mill, of Auckland, being runner-up.
