'Welcoming the new Commissioner of the Salvation Army at the civic reception at Wellington, on Wednesday, Councillor R. A. -Wright, M.P., said that he was glad to see that the guest of the occa-sion-ware a beard, as did the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup). It was a notable fact that the last four Mayors of the city—Sir John Luke, he himself, his successor (Mr. Cl J. B. Norwood),.and the present Mayor —were all wearers of beards. That, he suggested,' conveyed a hint of which unsuccessful aspirants for the Mayoralty might avail themselves.
