WHAT appears to be the last grant for the time being on the Levin-' Foxton Highway was advised to the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday bv the District Engineer. It represents an increase of the subsidy from £5501) to (£B2OO for the purpose of finishing the threemile section from the Levin Borough boundary. The Council was also advised of the placing by the Government of 30 of the unemployed on widening work just to -the south of Shannon. It is matter for regret that- no further work will be continued in the meantime on the main highway from the point mentioned to the W|hirokino bridge;—a distance of about four miles on;the main Wellington-Auckland highway and which constitutes the northwestern boundary of the Horowhcnun- ICounty. We have (previously commended the /Horowhenua County on its alacrity in pushing on with the main highway (WellingtonAnekland) construction which it has practically completed from its southern boundary to the Levin borough and the three miles now under construction on the LevinFoxton section. Wle would point out, however, that some provision should immediately be made independent of highway construction to iremove what has come to be known as “suicide bend,” a dangerous corner about a mile on the Levin side of the Whirolkino bridge. This bend has been the scene of innumerable accidents and a fatality. The widening ont of this sandy bluff would not be a costly undertaking and in the interests of public safety we make a special plea to the County Chairman to remove the menace,
