In the recent nurses’ examination at the Wellington Hospital, Miss Owen (daughter of Mr. and Airs. R. Owen, of Foxton), completed her final with credit, her position being second on the list in her section.

The death has occurred at Pokeno, near Auckland, of Air. John Joseph Eason, aged 79 years. Air. Eason was for til years a member of. the Manehester^ Unity 1.0.0. F., and was in the woolbroking business,in Dunedin and Wellington for a long period. Airs. 0. E. Austin, Remuera, and late of Foxton, is a daughter of deceased.

The Rev. George Brown, a pioneer minister of the Presbyterian Church in Now Zealand, will celebrate his 99th birthday a,( Onehunga on Alonday. Residing in Onehiuiga in a wooden bungalow lie has occupied for well over GO years, Air. Brown enjoys the evening years of his eventful life in peace and modest comfort. lie spends his days reading theological books, in which bis interest has not ebbed since he preached vigorous and thoughtful sermons in , Onehunga, Presbyterian Church. He is a learned scholar in the dead languages. It is lifl years since -Air. Brown came to Onehunga. He was born in Scotland seven years before Queen Victoria came to the throne, and was 30 years of age when lie arrived in Auckland in the ship Jura in 18G0.
