Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1929. CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP.
OWING to the death of Mr. Lethbridge it is improbable that the children’s health camp will be held this year. For some years past a health camp for children was held at the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. Lethbridge, at Turakina,® among beautiful surroundings and provided with facilities and shelters which added to the success of the camp. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn- selected the children and she was assisted in the camp routine by members of the teaching- profession and two nurses. Financial assistance was given by the Government, Palmerston North and .Wanganui (Hospital Boards and private donors. But (lie success of the camps was due. principally to the paternal interest and support, of Mr. and Mrs. Lethbridge. Therein was the homely touch which called forth .the joy and affection of the children and softened the necessary discipline of the camp. ’Camps will he held in the future hut they will lose just that paternal oversight which will over be remembered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lethbridge. The cost, too, of future camps'will be trebled. The late Mr. Lethbridge would never permit discussion on this point so far as it affected his generosity. The catnips of assembled children around his home was one of the joys of his life. The Board secretary informs us that t wo camp sites have been offered near Wanganui, hut the extra organisation, etc., required, will probably make it impossible for the camps to be held this vear.
