DAMAGES AWARDED WIDOW

Last week Charles Robertson, commercial traveller, was acquitted on a charge of negligently driving a motojr-ear so as to cause the death of James Robert Symonds, bridge keeper, employed by the Public Works Department on the Manawatu Gorge bridge. This morning, at the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Blair, a civil action was heard in which the deceased’s wifi, .v, Elsie Evelyn May Symonds, (•{aimed Horn Robertson and the Diabolo Separator Co., trading as the New Zealand Parmer.Separator Company, .02000. His Honour awarded £IBOO and assessed the widow’s interest at one-third, the remainder to he held in trust for the children, except the oldest; who is over lfi.
