LAYS TOTE ODDS IN FRONT OI
TOT ALISA. TOR.
Auckland, October 29
“It was great impudence on her part. Evidently this .woman thought she could lay wagers in front of the tote at the trots at Epsom yesterday,” said Chief Detective Hammond at the Police Court today, when a married woman, Alice Irvine, admitted she had laid tote odds on the Junction Handicap. Detective Hammond added that accused lived with her husband at Ponsonby. She was present at Alexandra Panic on Saturday, making wagers. Yesterday, she was there again, doing silver betting and while so engaged, she was caught by two detectives. “The worst feature about this case is that her little girl was doing the pencilling- for her,” said the Chief Detective. “Her husband was also at the trots with her.” A fine of £5 was imposed.
