After handing five ten pound notes to a stranger to mind for him on l'sth August last and then forgetting all about it next morning, 1 a Maori busbman disappeared. He had been haying some liquor and the stranger, who proved to he Mr. Henry J. MarkSj handed the money to the police. Inquiry at the Native i Land Court elicited that a Maori named Maunoa Toatoua had been paid £193 on 15th August. Asked whether he had given £SO to a (Stranger to mind for him, he said lie thought he had lost the money. At Auckland on Monday, at the suggestion of the police, he met Mr. Marks at the office of Police Inspector Hollis. He was identified by Mr. Marks and an ex-constable , recognised Toataua. The money was handed over to Toataua, aud lie made a substantial gift to Mi'. Marks.
