Some prominent Wiellington ladies have brought under the notice of the Minister for Justice the necessity for taking.legislative action to prevent liquor at cabaret parties. The Minister has promised to .look into the matter. The Wellington papers have been deluged x A',-ith correspondence condemning this demoralising custom. One young woman Avrites as follows to the Post: —
Sir, —I read with interest of the deputation to the Alinister of Justice on the question of the consumption of alcoholic liquor at caba vet parties and dances. I was delighted to find that at long last so many prominent Wellington ladies have seen (fit to broach this Duly vital matter and have shown so cleanly its effect on New Zealand national life.
“1 ami a young girl living away from home, and I have had plenty of opportunities of hearing young girls boasting of how much drink they take at dances. They seem to imagine that this is “the thing” to do, and that it is done by all “the best people.” Could they but see themselves after several drinks they would hesitate before forming a social habit so unbecoming and causing such immodesty. “Surely it is a poor outlook for the morale and physique of the people of New Zealand AA’hen this state of things exists. I for one (and I am sure many other young people) am very thankful to (find that this matter has now been brought to light, and I trust that some preventive measures may be taken at once, so that we Avho enjoy dances may participate without having the feeling of “being out of it.” because Ave refuse a “spot.”
