Miss L. Thompson is .at present spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs A. Dearlove, of Ongarue. Air. J. Linklatev, M.P., spent the week-end at his local seaside residence. In conversation with our representative the member for the district stated that past week in Parliament had taxed the physical endurance of members.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Barr, of Napier, were visitors to Foxton during the 4 week-end. Mr. 'Barr, who for many, yealrs conducted a drapery business in, Foxton, is now established in a similar business in Napier. The death took place at Turakina yesterday of Mjr Bennett P. Lethbridge, aged 62 years, a wellknown settler and former M.P., and Chairman of the .Wanganui Hospital Board and Riangitikei Comity Council.
A wedding was celebrated at the local 'Methodist Church at noon today, the. contracting parties being Mr F. Fergusson, of Ohakune, and Miss Iris Hughes, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Hughes, of Robinson St. The officiating minister was the Rev I. E. Parsons, of Palmerston N. The death took place at a private hospital at IPalmerston N. yesterday of Mr J. M. Jonnston, aged 71 years. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs W. G. Lyons (Kopane), and two sons, Messrs J. Hope Johnston (Mairton) and Ivan B. Johnston (Kopane). The late 'Mr Johnston arrived in New Zealand in 1878 and was subsequently connected with the Bank of N.Z. in various parts of New Zealand, prior to taking! nip t he posit ion of manager of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency in Palmerston N. In 1901 Mr Johnston commenced business on his own accoont. He was associated with a number of 'local bodies and up to the time of his death was secretary to the Manawatu Racing Club.
