BOWLING.

On Wednesday afternoon the Levin Bowling Club, despite the inclement weather, officially declared their green open for the season. Heavy rain made play impossible, the ceremony taking the form of a social function in the Club’s pavilion. There was a large gathering present, including the Mayor of Levin, who took a considerable part in the proceedings. Two riniks from Foxton were also present. After interesting speeches by the president (Mr. Sherwood) and Mr. Blenkhorn -(Mayor), -afternoon tea was partaken of, and Mrs. Blenkhorn threw the (first jack from the shelter of an umbrella, the Mayor then bowling the first bowl. - This afternoon the official opening of the Shannon Club’s green takes place, two links from Foxton making the trip. The riniks will be: — Warwick, Walton, Woods, Walker (s). ■ J. Reay, Howe, John Ross, Heyes (s).
