Mr. W. Cole, of Washington Valley, Nelson province, celebrated his 9-1 th birthday last Tuesday. He can remember Nelson since its beginning.
A very large gathering of Nelson citizens at noon yesterday extended an affectionate farewell to the Go-vernor-General and Lady Alice Pcrgusson. In the morning Sir (Charles gave inspiring addresses to thev pupils of the Nelson colleges. The death occurred suddenly on Saturday evening of Inspector Johu Fahey, who since January had been in charge of the Invercargill police district. Deceased came to Invercargill from Dunedin, being promoted from sub-inspector to inspector. For close on 20 years, he was stationed at Tirnaru both as seuiorsergeant and as detective-serfeant. Miss Jane Nash, who passed away in the Braidyvood district, New South Wales, recently, spent her girlhood days in Foxton where she resided with her parents and other,members of the family. Miss Nash, who had passed her seventieth birthday; was ia sister of tne late Mi. Norman Nash and the late Symons, snr., of Foxton. Over 60 years ago the family removed from Foxton to New South \\ ales, and most of them have remained, in the same district (Braidwobd)fevk' since their arrival there. The only remaining member of the deceased lady’s family in New South Wales is her ffrpther, Mr. John Nash, who is close to his eightieth birthday. There are a large number of relatives left to mourn the loss of one whose good actions in life endeared heir to all with whom she came in contact.
