MILLIONAIRIE’iS PURCHASE,
Sir John Ellerman, the wealthy shipowner and founder of the Ellermhn Line, has purchased the Iveagli estate in South Kensington. The property includes in all 82 aeics of freehold land and has an annual rent toll of £18,700. This sale is one of the most im.poirtant that has been effected in geeent years. The property was bought by Lord Iveagh from the Kensington Estate in 1902 for £565,000. The present sum has not been divulged, but it is presumed to be not less than three-quarters of a million. Sir John Ellerman, in Ma.reh •£ this year, purchased 13 acres of Chelsea. The area comprised between 500 and 600 houses with frontages of nearly two and a half miles. Sir John Ellerman, who is one of the wealthiest men in England, started life as a clerk in an accountant’s office. Now at the age of 67, he is a. direc'tofr of eight, companies, and is .credited with possessing a fortune of more than £40,000,000.
