FOXTON FIRE BOARD.

QUARTER LY MEETING

The quarterly meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was held in the secretary’s office yesterday, presided over- by Mr: A. 11. Clerke (chairman). Also present were Messrs J. K. Hornblow and M. E. Per ream Apologies for absence ,were received from Messrs John 'Boss and C. J. Gray. COKiRiESIPONBENICE was read and dealt with as follows :—< From the Department of Internal Affairs, enclosing voucher for quarterly contribution. —Received. From, the Superintendent reporting that during the quarter there had been but one -grass fire within the borough. —Received. From the Under Secretary., enclosing annual report of Fire Brigades and also (report on fire matters in general. —'Received. GENERAL. The application of Mr. J. Scott for membership to the Foxton Fire Brigade was approved. The appointment of Capital Expenditure Fund Commissioners was discussed and the secretary was instructed to ascertain from the Public Trustee the rate of interest obtaining with a view to having him appointed sole commissioner. It was decided to hold the next quarterly meeting of the Board in the evening in order to meet the Brigade and Fire Police socially. Accounts amounting to £lO7 17/5 were passed for payment. SUPERINTENDENT 1 ’ S REPORT. The 'Superintendent (Mr. H. J. Reid) reported as follows: — ( T beg to report that during the quarter the Brigade strength has been 15 men anil 1 messenger, a total o f T 6 .

“New Member -.—The following new member has been proposed, balloted for and elected to the Brigade —now submitted to the Board for confirmation, .J. Scott.

“Fires: —During the period there lias been one call to a minor grass fire which was readily dealt with, no damage resulting. , “Practices: —During the period 10 practices have been held with an average attendance of 12 to 13. “Equipment: —The engine, hose and equipment is in good order. —The annual ball held during the period was a most successful function both socially and financially.

“The Brigade was represented at the annual Re-union of the Otaki Volunteer Brigade.

“The‘Brigade intends "in the near future to instal a radio set in the social room. The members would appreciate any assistance the Board might feel disposed to render.

“The new . cushions have been fitted to ithe billiard table and are much appreciated by the members, the table now being in first-class order. The installation of the hot. water' service has also been completed, and is much appreciated by the members especially those living on the premises. “GeneralThe' street plugs and indicator's Have been painted with aluminium paint during the period, and I consider their visibility at night, has been greatly increased. This work was 'carried out by the waterworks’ engineer.” The report was adopted and it was decided to ascertain what sum the brigade can raise towards tlie radio set before the Board can commit itself.
